One more reason I need to get mine off the shelf and installed. But I have to get JQ going first. Thanks for the notice.

I pointed this out to a buddy of mine looking to install ADS-B in his certified airplane. His reply was “So far it has paid more than $500 to wait”. He has a point even though he will need it to fly to the places he goes and equipment/shop availability may hamper his flying some if he misses the deadline.

Well right now the lower priced solutions are around $1800. That minus $500 is a hefty savings, not sure your friend has much of a point. I think the prices have stabilized for the duration.

Thanks for a heads up! We are just now purchasing one for the cherokee so I would have missed out on this.

I like the description about the program. "A minimal rule-compliant system costs approximately $2,000, plus installation costs. " That was the same thing they said 2 years ago. In actuality there aren't many of those out there. The transponders are 3k. Even garmin something 82 is a minimal one that is just at 2k but that doesn't include other hardware like 400$ of cables. And then they don't mention on any of them besides the skybeacon it's 1-2 grand for install. So that number should be more like 5k for a minimal system.

RB = Uavionix . WiFi to your existing transponder . ;) Small foot print . Lightweight . I suspect as we get closer to 2020 all the lookie loos will be in a goat farkel trying to find an available system at a decent price ! :o

I really like the echoUAT as well. I have mine tied to my G400W and it connects via wifi to my Microair transponder. Hopefully the Garmin lawsuit wont kill Uavionix. It was about 3 wires to connect and it was done. Since I already had the 400W and the transponder, getting ADSB compliant cost me about $900 (for the echoUAT unit). That almost feels tolerable in aviation monetary units.

I have a uAvionix echoUAT with a CNX80/GNS480 feeding it position data. It was $800 and I already had wiring and a UAT antenna from my Navworx ADS600-EXP box that I had to remove. WiFi to an iPad with FlyQ-EFB for the traffic and weather. Working good with good feed back from the FAA reports.

There are three ways to wire the Uavionix Echo
1. power and gps and it will "sniff" the transponder
2. wire the RS232 output from the transponder (Garmin 327 in my case)
3. which is what Curt at Uavionix suggest, use there MUX cable, which connects to the transponder, RS232 out of the encoder, and Skyfyx WAAS
The mux cable has an interface board attached to a 9 pin D connector. They made up a bunch of these before Navworx went TU and will give one to you for the asking. I don't think this qualifies for the rebate as its not TSO'ed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm putting skybeacon in my cherokee 180 and most likely skybeacon in the thorp although the thorp might be after the 2020 deadline as I don't have any specific areas that require adsb around me. If it's a trip through larger places chances are I'll be in the cherokee.

There are good economical(?) 978UAT options as long as you have no desire to leave the states. I believe Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas, as well as other popular destinations, require 1090ES which currently cost a bit more. I could be wrong as I have not fully researched ADS-B options because I currently have no need to equip.
