Hi Folks. I have an older 1970ish Chrysler alternator fitted to my 0-320 150hp Lycoming. It is in need of replacement brushes. The current brushes are 6mm x6mm and about 15mm long (when new). The only replacement brushes I can by in Australia are 6mm dia and about 10mm long. Can anybody in US help to source repalcement 6mm x 6mm x 15mm long brushes please. PJ

A part number or serial number off the data plate on the alternator might help also .

Peter John,

Are there any alternator/starter or automotive electric repair shops in Australia? If so, surely they would have parts for American-made alternators. You could also try this site -

Good luck!

RB & John

Thanks for the comments and advice. Yes Australia does have alternator repair shops but Chrysler is not a native make of Australia. I is even more unusual to find a Chrysler alternator on an aircraft these days unless it is an older Piper with a lycoming engine. I am told by AUS suppliers that rectangle brushes are no longer available. The round ones are half the length with a subsequent reduction in life. I am an optimist so I was hoping that there might be somebody in the group in the US that might have a set of rectangle brushes laying around on a bench somewhere that I could purchase and ship to AUS. I have a Cessna alt laying in the hanger, but you would be better off with a Suzuki Samari 50 amp 2 wire alt, we get em here in the states for about 75 bucks, the same alt is used on Chevrolet, if you ask for the chevy alt and it is the same alt, they are about 150 bucks.......Dan
