I've cancelled my reservation too. This time of year & that long of a trip in the Thorp is so frustratingly problematic because of weather. It's rare that it works out for me from Denver. I even thought of driving... 15 hours. Nope! I hope it's not a complete bust for some of you brave souls.

As of 1630 Local, four Thorps on the ramp: Read, Highley, Williams, and Hawley. Weather great so far. Looks like some stuff rolling in tomorrow. The phones to the lodge got knocked out last night, so we are relaying cancelations for folks.

We'll let you all know how this turns out.

I just made it in to KDam around 11am (drove in from HSV) and there are (4) T-18 on the ramp but no people around. Storms rolling thru the area and vis is not good. Richard Bently, you will have a hard time getting in.
I checked in to the Lodge and I'm headed out to the airport.

Seventeen folks for dinner at Patty's. No flying today, Friday, due to weather. Some of us checked out the local museums. Ceiling coming up. Hope tomorrow is better.

Another great fish fry At Murray. Two thorps flew in but had to be left as weather closed in. We'll get them tomorrow. Rest of us drove. Dinner tonight at the lodge.

Well, I've been watching from Dallas and it seems the Weather just didn't cooperate for KD 2014. I'm sure fun was had by the one's that made it there. Safe Travels home when the weather breaks.

David and Karen are back home but the plane is still in Murray. Steve and I left ours there after the fish fry. It seemed a bit aggravating at the time but today that allowed us to put them in a hanger until we can get back to get them. Late morning it was still 300 ovc with 4 mi vis. Fortunately Karen drove down so I just rode back with her. I am lucky to live about an hour away by thorp. The other 3 have much further to go. Good luck to you all.

Hello Thorpies,

Some of you missed out on the great Kentucky Dam adventure this year. After several days of crappy weather, we managed to have four Thorps in Kentucky Dam and two at Harris airport just south of the Kentucky-Tennessee state line on account of low ceillings. Richard Bentley and my self could not get into Kentucky Dam with our Thorps, but did manage to visit with the group. Not a large group, but we enjoyed it tremendously.

Richard and I flew out birds out on Sunday, but had to battle more bad weather and low ceilings. Weather was terrible in the DFW area for several days. Ended up flying south to Richard's home and had a chance to visit and wait out the weather.

Started home from New Iberia Tuesday morning with clear skies, but 40kn head winds. Made it to within 70 nm from home and had mag problem. Limped back to the rearest airport ten miles away. Flew overhead for sometime and ventured on home. This week, will replace Bendix with Slicks, overhaul the Bendix and put them back on.

Glad to be home after some eight ours of not so good weather flying.

Brought my T-18 home today! Bob and Bill picked me up in Atlanta at about 5pm Friday afternoon, the 17th. We drove north through Chatanooga and stopped for the night about half way between there and Nashville. Arrived at the Murray airport at 10:30am. The great people at the airport would not allow me to pay anything for leaving my plane in their large hangar during the bad storms. I was in the air by 11 and filled with fuel in Shelbyville TN. My trip from there home averaged 185 kn at 5500' turning 2150 rpm. Now that is economical travel!!! The weather was not good but I'm sure everyone had a great time. I know I did.

Wow, that's really scootin' along, Steve! What do you figure the tailwind component was?
Sure glad you made it back OK!

I was flying a GPS heading of 113 degrees and I think Bob and Bill's headings was a little more in line with a direct tailwind. Probably, the higher altitude they flew was a stronger wind. In any case, below 4500 feet it was very bumpy and above 5000 it was smooth as silk. I would guess the wind was in the 45 to 50 mph range. I just throttled back and enjoyed it.
