Bob, Dave and Lee brought two used mags down to KY Dam on Sunday morning. They were both impulse mags so wouldn't fit. Swapped out the internals to my mag. The old coil from Dave's mag didn't look too good, but tried it as had nothing to lose. Started right up and ran really good on the mag. I took off for a test and it started running rough on the mag after a few minutes and totally quit after about 7 or 8 minutes just like the original one did. It was the coil failing both times. I climbed up high and flew to an airport I stopped at on the way to KY. It was just north of Memphis. Had met a bunch of homebuilders there a few days earlier. A guy named Robert Harris runs a business there called EZJets. He builds or converts Long Eze types to jets with the GE T58 engine. He brought out about 8 or 10 used mags but nothing would fit. Very nice and interesting folks there. I decided to order a rebuilt one from Spruce on Monday and had it by Tuesday morning. Put it on and it is the best running mag I have ever used. Flew home with no problems. I guess the old saying is sometimes true "time to spare, go by air"! Thanks again for everyones help at KY Dam. Bernie |
