I've been talking with Charlie Becker this past week. We're in the early stages of planning our 60th Anniversary Celebration this year at Oshkosh. Here's what we have so far ...

Oshkosh 2023

◦ “Real Estate” sign “Thorp T-18 60th” (EAA to provide)

◦ Thorp featured on the 2023 custom built patch (Lee to provide photo with a better planform)

◦ Homebuilts in Review (just west of homebuilt Flightline … 2 Thorps needed)

◦ Group Photo - perhaps after homebuilt donut breakfast

◦ Forum as usual in the home builders hangar (Lee to coordinate with Mark Forss)

◦ T-shirt (Marty Ashley has already made up one option) ... We may need to provide another

◦ Volunteer needed to fly in the homebuilt flyby

◦ Editorial story on the Thorp and perhaps a unique story about one Thorps journey (David Read) … thinking this is for the AirVenture daily paper

◦ Charlie to look into interest in a 60th Anniversary story in Sport Aviation , impact of the Thorp on EAA, Don Taylor etc …

◦ For those who want to camp in homebuilt camping there is space available to camp and still place airplanes on the Flightline (homebuilt camping … by pavilion)

Group dinner/lunch options

◦ Reserved tables during the homebuilders dinner

◦ Cookout at the homebuilt pavilion (Lunch)

◦ Dinner at the tailwind cafe (aces) … up to us to hold tables

Do you have the dates for those events, or too early to tell?

Should we use a "HBP" sign if we want to be with the other T18's at OSH....those of use not camping with our planes that is?

Is there a preferred or proven/tested best location for placing the magnetometer on a T-18?

Thanks

I put mine high up on the 572 former, pilot side. Works like a champ.

Also standing by for any updates...

Any thoughts about a "mass" fly in? Last year, I flew my T18 with the Glasair mass arrival (my other airplane is a Glasair) and it really made it easy- at least for all of us in trail...

We all met in Madison on Saturday- had a group dinner, discussed the arrival... then met early Sunday at the airport and blasted off for Osh. Worked out great!

KOSH Thorp Clan,

I'm starting to finalize plans for my 2023 KOSH trip. If there is a quorum of other thorp owners doing so, I'll put 78WG on the "show line". I've always parked in HBC to distance her from "Riff-Raff Rash" and because, well, I'm a firm believer that KOSH is best attended under the wing! But if we can get a good showing I'm happy to have her out there and counted. I have another camping option and the wife won't be attending due to work so it'll be a good year to do it. Also, if there is still a need for someone to fly for the homebuilts in review, I'm happy to to do it. I just need more info on the "when, where, and what". I'm planning on showing up Friday or early Saturday and have usually shown up in a formation, so if anyone wants to meet up prior and fly in together I'm all in. I'll be starting off from central SC and I'm happy to meet up along the way.

Same here...

Planning my trip for this year.

As of now, my plan is to fly in Sunday morning and park in Home Built Camping. But I'm open to other possibilities...

I reckon to arrive Sunday, morning or early afternoon (when it's most busy...dang). Possibly late afternoon Saturday if the Wx and winds aloft are merciful (from Oregon).

Quick Oshkosh update ...

First ... please if you can park your planes on the flightline, camping is still available without being with your plane and we really need to make a good showing. Homebuilts in the camping area go largely unseen.

Thorp Forum - Tuesday July 25th - Homebuilders Hangar
Homebuilders Dinner - (Pretty sure this is Wednesday the 26th) - details to follow. We usually pass on this but this year they've encouraged us to attend as we will be recognized for the 60th.
Homebuilt In Review - TBT (Volunteer Aircraft needed here - it's a short push over to the review area from the flightline)
Homebuilt Flyby - TBT (Volunteer Aircraft needed here .. . a chance to fly your plane in the airshow)
Thorp Group Dinner - Friday July 28th 6:30 Wendt's on the Lake. We'll take a head count through out the week and figure out transport

There will certainly be unofficial dinners and lunch gatherings throughout the week. This is just the 'official' list ...

Usually we plan to arrive on Sunday .. this year we may be shooting to arrive Saturday just to beat the rush.

Lee,

I'll park upfront. Happy to fly in the show and happy to push the plane where needed (if you promise to help ;) ).
