Richard, I don't want to disagree with you but in this case I'm going to have to. Pull out dwg D-609, it shows pretty clearly that even at 20deg nose high the bottom of the tank is still above the carb, 8 gallons is way above it. that being said Bill Williams had issues with one of his airplanes running right at low fuel levels. I thought i had that problem in an 0290 powered airplane a while back but it was the carbs fault.
If you are referring to horizontally inducted airplanes then you are of course correct, I fall into that category and I have both a mechianical and electric pump.
Again I'm not trying to cause a stir but we don't want people out there getting nervous about flying with less than 8 gallons.
