Richard, I don't want to disagree with you but in this case I'm going to have to. Pull out dwg D-609, it shows pretty clearly that even at 20deg nose high the bottom of the tank is still above the carb, 8 gallons is way above it. that being said Bill Williams had issues with one of his airplanes running right at low fuel levels. I thought i had that problem in an 0290 powered airplane a while back but it was the carbs fault. If you are referring to horizontally inducted airplanes then you are of course correct, I fall into that category and I have both a mechianical and electric pump. Again I'm not trying to cause a stir but we don't want people out there getting nervous about flying with less than 8 gallons. Lee |

Roger that Richard, I'm not suggesting you didn't have issues, only that it's unique to your airplane. We'll discuss this further at ECG though. This subject has been beaten to death on this forum already. I can assure you though, if your plane is built per-plans the carb is well below the bottom of the fuel tank at 20 deg nose up. The end result on this topic has been that it's unique to a particular installation and not the design itself. It's a matter of restriction of fuel flow/pressure not gravity. |

on an other (sort of related note) .. 20 deg is one heck of a deck angle! Was this a test flight? |
