I like the idea of the fiberglass rod, did you notch it or use some kind of paint marking?

I hadn't thought about the implications of tall vs short gear and different tail wheels.... I was looking for an easy fix but will take the high road and do it right. Thanks for the advice.

I am more than happy to learn ;)

My great Uncle was a Crew Chief on one of the Navy's NC-4's and passed on to me his fuel dip stick. When folded it is only 6 inches long and unfolds to 24 inches. At least 75 years old and made by the Stanley Company. It can be adjusted (folded)

for varing fuel densities and OAT. Proved to be invaluable crossing the Atlantic (at nite). I believe it to be the last one? It's really a 100 year old Stanley folding wood tape measure. It could work as a fuel gauge ! [:p]

I made a dipstick from a 3/8 dia. rigid plastic tube with marks on the outside. I heated the tube and drew it down to a small dia. tip. I stick it in the tank, wait a second, put my finger over the open end and pull it to take a reading. I often take two readings just to confirm.

Hey RB,
That hood looks like the one on that 1966 Volvo station wagon you gave me a ride in. Did you ever get the AC to work? Or the passenger window to roll down?
Just funning ya.
