... it was only a matter of time before someone brought up the subject of VGs on Thorpaircommand.com.

MLMP has a row of VG's on the stabilator and I want to take them off. Are there any good reasons NOT to take them off?

This topic has been kicked around for some time. The A/C was designed w/o them. If you do a forum search you can find more info on those that installed them on T-18's and how they "helped ?"

Hi Dick,

From what I understand, they may have been added to prevent the infamous "bunt" on final approach. There have been a number of other fixes to prevent this from happening. I found that using only 30 degrees flap when solo prevents this with my plane. I did add VG's to the outer panels and vertical tail of my plane. The ones on the vertical tail eliminate most of the fancy footwork I had to do previously. The ones on the outer wing panels really tame the stall and improve low speed control when landing and they did not affect cruise speeds.
