Post subject:  Thorp for sale

Hi all, Our late friend and fellow Thorper Mr. David Flatter purchased a second Thorp just before his Passing,it is in my hanger. I was putting it back into flying shape for Dave as it is a complete airplane. It is an S-18, 0320 and a lot of new stuff, it just needs to be put in order. I have replaced the Main gear tires and tubes, and it now has a new tail wheel, there is too much to say about this bird,it is a very nice looking Thorp does not need paint or anything like that. After Dave's passing I can't make the thing fly for just anyone on account of liability. It has flown already and has 40hrs on the motor, I have talked with Juanita Dave's wife, and it is up for sale. It has a trailer with wing holders and it folds up and goes on the trailer very nicely. it will all go as a package for not near what it is worth. Anyone interested call me at 559-686-4588 evenings and we can discuss......Dan

Go see Cal had a Chevy dealership up here in Federal Way, WA, put out some crazy commercials, had a few good laughs, never visited him, I'm not a Chevy guy. I think my english teacher just did a flip flop in her grave on the sentence structure for that last one. ;D

Cal was a landmark on SOCAL TV . He had several car lots in LA and his famous saying was "I'll stand on my head to make you a deal !" He was also a B-25 bomber pilot .

I stand corrected...he flew 20 B-17 missions over Germany . With that record I would buy a car from him !

Howdy All !

I am the buyer of the S-18 formerly owned by the late Dave Flatter.

I wanted to introduce myself, and say that I am looking forward to being a part of the Thorp "community". It's great to have a resource such as this website, and forum to obtain experienced support.

It's a very cool airplane. I am very excited, and can't wait to get it back here in FL. I have always wanted one since the 18's performance and efficiency was pointed out to me when I was a younster. I have alot of respect for those you that have built your own.

When I get this bird home my plan is to get it put together, running, and ready for a CI.

If anyone in FL knows of an A&P with IA that is familiar with Thorps, I am looking for referrals.

Then I'll also be looking for someone to help me get familiar with flying it.

Rob,

We have a couple of flying Thorps in Lakeland with a couple more under construction. I'm sure you know that you don't need an IA to perform a condition inspection. Any knowlegable A&P can do it. If you find an A&P that you have confidence in, we can help him should he (she) have any Thorp specific questions.

Bob,

No I had no idea that the A & P could do the CI w/o an IA, as this is the first EXPERIMENTAL I have owned. I have a lot to learn.

But I am more than happy to trailer it to KLAL if you guys know of someone in/at/around KLAL for both the CI, and the intro. to flying this vehicle.

I appreciate any guidance, thanks !

Rob,
Welcome. You will enjoy this little bird very much. I can tell you they fly like a dream. And being designed by a real engineer, they are better designed than many other experimentals you see around. Have confidence that it will take care of you, as long as you spend a little time with it.
Bill and Bob can hook you up with the Florida crowd.
