Anyone in the SOCAL area planning on attending the cable airport air fest Jan 10-11 2015?
Would be nice to make a good showing of Thorpers there.

I haven't spoke to Dan about it yet but I'm sure he would be up to it, well, let's see how many we we can get to attend, Tony G are you up to it? How about the Corona airport bunch?

If we plan to display as static aircraft we could get boxed in until Sunday ? If we know ahead of time we can contact Cable and try and get our own area to display and not be subject to EIT to get out !

I flew in to cable this past Saturday and poked around. From what I was told, if you fly in for the day you need to be in before 9:00 AM and your stuck there to 5:00 PM. :P

Lou : Talked with Mary at Cable and she does the registration , etc. for the event . Told her there may be several Thorps flying in on Sat. morning and leaving early Sat. afternoon . She did not see that as a problem . I plan to arrive on or before 0900 on Sat . and leave Sun. afternoon (1300 ?) so I can get a 2 day tax write off . :P

Ok, so now they are telling me getting in and out is no problem but they do want the forms filled out and emailed in ahead of time. ::)

Lou : From what I gathered from my phone call is that they will not have the volume of planes arriving for display , freeing up more airspace time . I just got my registration packet and the main purpose was to obtain an event number to help sequence the traffic .

ATCT Operating Times (Local) Airport Closure times (local)/frequencies
Fri. Jan. 9 1100-1600 Fri. 1100-1500 Twr 126.4
Sat. 0900-1700 Sat. 1000-1700 Twr 126.4
Sun. 0900-1700 Sun. 1000-1700 Twr 126.4

Get in before the field closes in the AM and they said they will work with folks departing prior to the field opening . I plan to land on or before 0900 on Sat. and leave late Sun. afternoon . :o

OK Dixie Fried . Still plan to land on or before 0900 on Sat. (WX permitting) . Only thing I know right now is I am parking on the South Side . I'll look for you at Mike's along with several hundred other friends of ours looking for chow ! :P

Well...at least 2 of us made it to Cable Airport for their Fly In . Me and Dixie Fried Lou along with Lou's Co-Pilot Renee . So much for their 20% chance of rain . Arriving around 0900 the clouds were already moving in from the West and by 1300 we had light rain . Lou had his hands full with a dual brake problem that required rounding up a bleeder and some hydraulic fluid . The actual event was bigger than I thought it would be with a good turn out of aircraft and every kind of Fair food that you could imagine . By 1300 I was heading to my In-Laws to get out of the rain and Lou left sometime before the actual rain began to head back to SBD . They did get most of the air show completed on Sat. , but when I went out Sunday morning they had CNX the days events and folks were going home . So back to the In-Laws for another nite and I left around 1100 on Monday . For them predicting a 20% chance of rain we had over an inch when it was all said and done . Attached are a few pics of the soggy fun ! ::)
