Sorry to pass this along - Les Conwell, well known Thorp builder and all around good guy, passed away December 23, 2022. His obituary is found at Blount Curry Funeral Home Garden of Memories in Tampa, FL. Les was always known for his participation with our community and his willingness to help out wherever needed. Services will be held in Tampa on January 4, 2023. Les's passing will leave a great void in our ranks.

I’m so sorry to hear that, Bob. I’ll always remember “the 3 amigos”. You & Susan, Bill & Debbie and Les & Margie made so many fly-ins more special for all of us. Our condolences to Les’s family and friends.

Merry Christmas to you and all of the thorp group.

Ah. What a tragedy. He was the calm one of you three! So sorry to hear of his passing.
I just learned of Frank Roncelli’s passing as well. Sad days.

We are very sorry to hear that. He gave me my first “hook” ride in a Thorp and my first taste of precision formation flying.

Very sad news indeed. Les was a friend and neighbor when we lived at Hidden Lake Airpark. He gave me my first Thorp ride. I have a signed photo of then-Capt Conwell standing in front of his F-106 taken in 1956 when he was a young steely eyed fighter pilot. His jet was named the City of Elizabeth City, where I’m currently the airport director. I get asked about the photo often. He’ll definitely be missed.
