Are you tired of punching holes in a carb board box...trying to double over masking tape to hold those screws and what nots in place while you spray paint, well check out Uncle Richies Funky paint strip. Nothing fancy, just a left over piece of IKEA kitchen cabinet wall bracket, it has plenty of holes already made Image Insert: Put File Caption Here (the stuff used for metal shelving would also work). Put a piece of double sided carpet tape on part of the metal strip and masking tape over the holes. Put your flat/finishing washers (or any other small parts) on the carpet tape. Take your screws and "punch" then thru the masking tape. Paint as required. When done remove the tape and repeat as necessary. I found the carb board works for about one time, then the holes get enlarged and you need to punch more holes. That's my opinion, what's your's ? RB |

Rich: When I worked on CDN Military aircraft we used wooden paint boards. These boards where about 2 feet long, 12 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. (2) 3 inch wooden blocks attached to raise the board off the painting table. The board was drilled to hold 50 or so screws and washers. We would put the screw and washer together and paint them together. 1st prime then paint the hardware. We did not use any separating tape. This was done for aircraft leaving the repair section on hardware that usually is repetitively removed. My belief the function of painting is to: 1. Provide warning markings; 2. provide corrosion control; and 3. Finally aesthetics Your set up works, you may or may not worry about the over spray as your paint strip is narrow. I don't loose to much sleep on paint on attaching hardware as the paint can peel the 1st time the fastener is used. Just my .02 cents. |

Vic: All you say is spot on, except me drill 50 holes ! Sticking to the tape and pushing thru the tape was more easier. More easier...where are my manners ! RB |

Rich: I believe a Lockheed CC-130 Hercules use one or two more machine screws than a Thorp T-18. Small section of Peg board that is already drilled is option 2 and should cut down on your drilling. Cheers. |

I used 3/16" hardware cloth. The mesh lets the spray go through and thus keeps the pressure from the gun from blowing the screws and washers too far. and yes, when you install them, the paint chips off. |
