Good idea on the new catagory. There has been an up surge in LookieLoos ?, [:p] if I may use that term with all due respect ! Along those lines, it might be a good idea to include a "fact page" with all the T-18/S-18 performance numbers as they compare to say...an RV (8/9 or ?). This is a topic that always comes up when folks ask about the two.

Alright Rich, you asked for it you got it.

If everyone would please review the "Thorp Comparison" info on the main Forum page I'd appreciate it. Please let me know if I stated anything erroneous.

Thanks!

I thank you, my friends thank you, my little dog thanks you ! [:)] With the increasing interest in the A/C, this data page...we may want to add some other numbers that pop up in the discussion. This way a Thorp driver does not have to reinvent the wheel and regurgitate the same numbers and info, over and over. Other numbers we may want to include under this heading are...

1. Gross weight.
2. Width. Both T-18 and S-18.
3. G limits ?
4. Width of S-18 with wings folded. For the highway.
5. Min and Max engine size.
6. Endurance. Std tank and wing tanks.
7. ????

I may be overstating the situation and if that's the case I'll back off, but I think it would be easier to refer folks interested in the "facts" about the A/C to direct them to this data/fact page on the forum. Are we there yet ?. How fast does it go ?. Then if they still have any questions...bring em on !

Faster and Farther

I will be happy to supply data for the S-18.

Alright, I think we have most of those ...

1. Gross weight. already there
2. Width. Both T-18 and S-18. already there
3. G limits ?
4. Width of S-18 with wings folded. For the highway.
5. Min and Max engine size. already there
6. Endurance. Std tank and wing tanks. already there Range is already there .. are you asking for hours?
7. ????

Will add the width and G-limits ... but that get's complicated [;)]

The cruise speed for a 180 hp T-18 at 8000 feet should be 201 mph.

Lee,
Nice to have that prominently displayed. A couple of comments:
- Classic Sport shows length as 18'6" for an S18, not 23'11". That would be match mine, without the spinner, but I'd use 19'5", or 6" more than the "standard". Of course it depends on the spinner and tailwheel mounting.
- I'd delete "Utility Cat" from gross weight. For a standard T18, it would handle utility category G limits at 1705 lbs. - perhaps (and perhaps not) higher for an S18. Vans lists aerobatic gross weight at 1600 lbs. for the 6 and 1650 for the 6A.
- Van's shows 199 mph TAS cruise at 8k ft. for 180 hp. RV6.

Thanks Richard .. the length was a guess for me, The T-18 is 18'11", I just added 5" to get the 23'11", That did seem a bit high to me though. Can anyone else tell me the proper number?

Add 5 inches to the standard T-18 length. Too much fuzzy math going on in this school. [:0] I get 19' 4" ? [:p] You still get an A- or a 9.9 (which ever is greater) for taking the time to do this project. Isn't that Ken Knowles/Phil Tucker catalog a great read ! [8D] A whole lot of info in a few pages.

If you look at the side by side, it becomes painfully clear that the T-18/S-18 is the best thing going as long as you can live with the 38"/40" cockpit width.

It wins in just about every category.

I lurned my math from the same skol as Jethro Bodine. Naught from naught is naught. [:o)]
