There's a great article in the latest Sportsman Pilot (Winter, 2011) about Wendell Green's Wing Derringer. Lots of info about John Thorp, and Wendell's relationship with our own Lee Walton. Highly recommended! To subscribe: 336-633-3954 or spilot@sportsmanpilot.com

Here here! I had high hopes for Sport Aviation when they changed the format ... Since then it has gone seriously downhill! This is coming from a kid who grew up reading every issue from cover to cover and committing most them to memory. Of course that's when Jack Cox was involved. In my opinion since he left EAA has struggled to maintain focus on what interests the typical member.

I can read avionics reviews and aircraft buyers guides in any other newsstand flying magazine, EAA needs to stick to the core purpose of the organization. I guess I should say EAA should stick to what the core purpose of the USED to be. As now it appears to be purely making $$$. I've sent several letters to the editor only to get a "we're very busy" email back.

Anyhow, without Sportsman Pilot (now cancelled due to Jack Cox passing) , Sport Aviation is all we have so I guess we need to either start a new magazine or keep pushing EAA (yeah right!!) in the right direction.

I am glad you said that Lee. I haven't written to the editor because I know they ain't gonna listen to anything I have to say. But, I have felt exactly the same way about Sport Aviation. I used to anxiously await the magagine then read it cover to cover and save every copy. Now it sits there like AOPA magazine. I scan it to see it there is anything of interest---there seldom is. I will miss seeing Jack Cox at Reno, Oshkosh and Sun'n Fun. I always read his "Sportsman Pilot" magazine cover to cover also and saved all copies. Now all we have is Kitplanes magazine.
