Dear Group,

My best friend and co-pilot, my wife Sue, died early today after a long term battle with Ovarian cancer. In 2001 Sue went with me to Sun-N-Fun and during the T-18 banquet some may remember how she spoke of the time her mother (then 92) rode in a Jenny in LA. Sue loved the little Thorp and we enjoyed many wonderful adventures in it. When I was building it in the garage I sometimes would wake her up in the night and ask her to help buck a "few" rivets...she loved to tell everyone that a few always turned into many.

Dear Tom,

Sorry to hear about your loss, but thanks for telling us. It's good to hear you both shared your good times together, and that's irreplacable. It's true that words aren't sufficient, but nevertheless they do have some meaning, and I hope they convey there's a bunch here that still offer commraderie, at least as guys do.

Les Krumel.

Dear Tom,
We have never met but, on occasion, have corresponded about drop tanks.

There is no way anyone can at this point ease your pain. Time will make it more bearable but unfortunately, that's as good as it gets. Right now all the rest of us can do is to vocalize our support and hopefully that in itself will slightly lift you. The other thing (that you have already expressed) is the great gift that Sue gave you in being supportive in your Thorp endeavor. Thorps are not always particularly popular with the fairer sex! You are immensely lucky that Sue shared your love of our dear old Thorp.
Sincerest condolences.

Tom,

My deepest sympathies at your loss. You will be in my prayers.

I wrote the attached essay a few years ago on the occasion of the death of my grandfather. I hope it brings you some comfort.

Regards,

Mark Russell
