hey Bob, did ya have the hair grease,blue jeans, white t shirt with a pair of loafers and the infamous cuff on those jeans? Those were the days that's pure Americana, the boy has a 53 chop top Chevy sitting in the driveway, it has about a 8 in tall wind shield and the top slopes into the trunk, he did a good job on it, he is a lead sled builder.........Don't know how he g to to be such a gear head,the wife blames it in me can you imagine that......Dan

I had the requsite flat top with butch wax, now no top. Sleds are good. Our grandson, 17, is working on a '72 VW with wide wheels and twin Webbers. Suz and I gave him nerf bars for Christmas. Apple not so far from the tree.

I can still rember that 69 "Chevy" 327 with the 4 barrel Holly sittin at the stop light and you could HEAR the gas being sucked down the carb throat and the gas gauge heading toward MT ! Woosh ! I wish I had that car now ! Not for the gas mileage ,but the good times it bought ! Paid $1,200 for it and traded it ($800.00) in for my 69 MGB which I still have . Both cars now are worth about the same $18,000 + ! BADA BING , BADA BOOM !

OK, since we're talkin' cars... I had a '48 Plymouth AND a '48 Desoto in the mid-60's. Bought the Desoto for $20 (didn't run) because I thought the fenders & other body parts could be robbed for the Plymouth - although they looked identical, I found out the hard way that they weren't. I managed to cram a 283 from a '59 Chevy station wagon in the Plymouth, along with the tranny, drive shaft & rear axle. Spark-O-Matic shifter on the floor. I called it the "Flying Pickle", alias the "Green Latrine". You can guess what color it was. It was fun dealing with 6 volt instruments, lights, etc. when I converted it to 12 volts for the V-8. It was a real SLEEPER at the stop lights! The rear seat was bigger than the sofa in my living room now. Butte, Montana. The good old days.

I remember my Uncle Paul from Manhattan Beach coming back "East" to visit, and my cousin Ron showing me the PCV valve on their CA spec '57 or maybe it was a '58 Plymouth. And my 1965 MGB had a PCV valve. So the PCV valves came along way before the 1970's. I do know that things have improved greatly since I began working for AA in 1979 and used to fly into the LA basin. You could smell the smog as soon as the outflow valve opened all the way on descent

Bob: My 1969 MGB ( Soon to be restored) has a "Gulp Valve" , a SMOG pump , an EGR vapor return line to each cylinder from the SMOG pump . The good News is due to the year a SMOG check is no longer required , so I may be able to strip off all the Smog crap ! Sure miss driving that car and it was one hell of a Chick magnet ! No Nuggets required .
