FWIW, I just lost my seven year collection of Bookmarks because I had not made a ASRD.
My computer got stuck in a loop that I wasn't comuter savy enough to fix. Needless to say I lost a lot of good info. Luckly, I had most of my pics Backed up. I'm still trying to create a Automated System Disk without any luck. You make one by clicking on:

start, programs, accessories, system tools, backup

Finally got it to work after updating my old XP operating system, only to run out of space on my DVD. Then my PC wouldn't accept another DVD to finish loading.

I mention this not to show my computer ignorance. But to hopefully warn others. Run a backup of your files and if someone can tell me how to finish making an ASRD, I'd appreciate the help.

I hate to admit how many days I've wasted. Now back to something simple like building an airplane.

Wow, what a nightmare. I think I finally got it done. Somewhere in the help menue it said you have to copy the ASRD in FAT32. Then it said you can't in XP. Then it wants to copy to a tape drive, not a disk. So, if you do a complete ASRD copy you get all your files. I had loaded some pics and other files I recovered and got the ASRD to load to memery sticks. Filled up 16+gig. Then copied to DVD's. Not FAT32. So, if I get the "install ASRD" again, it probably won't work.
My only suggestion is to make the ASRD (if you can) immediately after you install your Operating System. Backup your Bookmarks/Favorites and My Documents on a DVD.

I lucked out and found some of the stuff left in an old AOL file in my Email account.

Good luck all, at least my PC seems to run faster.
