This might be a bit of a silly question. I have only ever flown planes in drier climates and usually only damp wipe the bugs off and then spray wax . I am looking into flying the t18 down to Port A right on the Texas coast for a day or so . Would a regular hose and soap bath like a car be what is needed for salt water environment? Or am I overthinking the corrosion problem? Thanks |

A mild car wash soap and a hose end sprayer to rinse and you should be good to go . If you are only going to be there a day or two , then washing upon return would be the way to go . Just my opinion and my opinion is the only one that counts ! RB NX115RX 2019 |

My opinion doesn't count as much as RB's, but...I would never, as in NEVER spray water on an aircraft. Guaranteed it will find it's way under the skin leading to massive regret, even if down the road a ways. Slightly soapy water (a few drops in a water bottle, for example) and CLEAN microfiber towels (Costco sells a zillion of those yellow ones for, like, twenty bucks...meaning you can use one for a few SQFT worth of bugs, then throw it away (or wash/rinse it out and from then on it's just a rag)) is all you need. Did I mention that I would NEVER spray water on an aircraft? Just my opinion. Best of luck. |

I have a buddy that has a polished RV-6A. He has a tried and true clean up method, simple use of distilled water in a spray bottle, wiping off using a microfiber cloth. Simple, effective, easy on polished surfaces. Rob |
