Post subject:  Gap Seals on Ailerons - Speed Increase?

Guys,
My hangar mate claims to have been speaking to a fellow Thorp owner that works at Saber, the prop extension company. This individual claims to have installed gap seals on the ailerons and picked up about 5 mph in cruise. Have any of you done this with similar results? I don't want to go to the touble of engineering and installing them to find out they are like the "dice - amatic" machines that work at the mall but don't when you get them home.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim, I sealed my flaps and my ailerons when I built the bird, so I don't know how it would have done without the seals. I riveted them into the trailing edge of the wing, the ailerons are sealed on the underside, so are the flaps, the Flaps are pretty much sealed on the top also.......Dan

Pretty much a non event. I put some clear tape on the under side of my aileron gaps some years ago. I couldn't tell the difference.

Hello Jim, I can honestly Confirm a speed increase, I gained about 5 mph, I run the Rat motor so any speed mod really shows it self, but also works in the opposite direction if you do something that slows the plane......Ira

Guys,

Could any of you post pictures of your gap seal installations?

Thanks,

Jim
