Thorp Air Command - T18.net

I have looked at all the #631 S-18 drawings and a few others as well as the T-18 flap drawings. I cannot find on any of the drawings where the inner/outer flap mount bushing is called out. It is shown on multiple drawings/views but never called out. Also checked #635 and multiple other drawings. I am sure I am just missing the one drawing that shows it/it's specific build. Hoping someone can steer me to the drawing/part number to sort me out! A couple views where it is shown but never called out.

If any of you recall what drawing it is on or what the part number is and can let me know I would appreciate it!

Working on the inner wing assembly

it appears my drawings show you are supposed to use the same bushing as what is used for the rudder bushing. Mine is dwg 581 for that bushing.

How did you attach pictures? I tried to do that and it tells me failed all the time

I will check that and look for the reference. If you can get a pic or point to where it is referenced that would be great!

For pics, I just have jpegs and use the "add image to post" link right below the text box. Seems to work if I just leave the default options (i.e. don't try to resize) and pick from file on my computer.

***EDIT*** - checked the 581 drawing - that seems to be it. Thanks! I believe I saw these on Thorp Central parts listing and couldn't correlate them to the flaps - now it make sense!

They were called out as 555 on the T18 drawings. Same part, just made from different material. We stock them as 581.

So this is how I came up with the 581 bushing. I can easily screw stuff up, so double check me!

Pretty sure the original material for the bushings was a Phenolic material . I believe I still have one or 2 of the original bushings that came with the partially completed project I bought back in 1984! When you could no longer get the Phenolic bushings I got the "Nylon Bushings" from Ken Knowles or Mike Archer ? That is all . RB OUT !

I made mine out of stainless steel. Comparable with aluminum and doesn't imbed grit like the plastics do. As for the ones for the flaps, I made several with offset center holes so I can rotate them on assembly for final adjustment.

I did end up finding a bag some original 581's in a box. I didn't recognize what they were as the bag was dusty from the phenolic dust from original packaging. Will need to get some from Cubes as I only found x4. Did a quick fit check and they were good!

Interesting idea using the offset boles. Once you had them set where you wanted them, did you just final torque/ tighten them? Or did you use a bearing retaining type locktite to keep them from rotating?

Just tightened. Did put a punch mark on the collar for reference.
