According to my notes the following filters work
Fram CA-176
Napa Gold 2091 - I believe this is made by Wix
Wix 42091 - this is what I have installed on my aircraft, have used the Napa filters also.
The application for this filter is 1955-1980 large block GM V-8

The filter called out on -781 Assembly Carb Air Box is AC A86C or equiv.

A quick search for "AC A86C air filter" found the following on ebay

I would be very concerned about a large grit content being found in the oil. That grit has to go around the engine to find its way onto the filter and on the way Ask yourself, "what does grit do"???
I will hazard a guess that you fly from a dirt strip or run-up area and when you select carb' heat you get unfiltered air into the intake!
I do my carb' heat check on the move so that I do not lift up the dirt with the prop' tips while stationary.
Otherwise you have an intake ducting problem and the filter is not doing it's job.
Sometimes you will get an analysis report back that says, "excessive silica". That is normally a dirty drain pipe. Try sucking some out from the filler before draining. Warm of course, and don't suck too hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
