Is there a forum/group that is strictly for the Lycoming O-290-G conversion? A Google search didn't show one.

I have the lycoming@groups.io .

I have 4 -G's, one converted, one partial and 2 stock. Also have a worn out O-290-D2 (bad cam and cracked cylinders), and would like to see what I can put together with all the parts.

Thanks.

Steve H

I have not seen one. If the forums were around back in '70's you would have your pick! The knowledge base for conversions is shrinking from what I have seen.

Assume you have the basics?
- Technical manual for Converting the Lycoming 0-290-G Ground Power Unit to an Aircraft Engine Donald C. Pridham
- Lycoming Service Letter L156
- Various articles from Sport Aviation from the late '60's and early '70's (John Thorp, others) for converting the O-290G. You can search EAA website if you are a member for these articles.

There are some knowledgeable folks on the O290D/O290D2 group on Facebook . . . if you can stand to sort through all the a-holes and know-it-alls to get a little bit of useful information.

Good luck. I have an O-290G that was partially converted to a "D" that came with my RV-3 project way back in the day. It came with all the "D" parts to put it back together as well as had the front of the engine case filed down to remove the generator flywheel mounting bracket. Let me know if you are looking for something specific and I might be able to find it for you.

Thanks, Rob for all the good info.

I have a copy of the manual. If I remember correctly, I tried to buy it from EAA a few years ago, and they didn't have it anymore. I may be able to find an original on Ebay, etc. I do have the service letter, and am an EAA member (all magazines since 1972!) so I'll search on the EAA site...much easier than flipping thru the mags. I believe there were some articles in the T-18 news letters also.

You are right...it often seems everyone is an expert.

This engine would be for my Stits Playboy restoration, but it's a couple of projects down the road. The -G's came with it.

Thanks again for the help.
