I suspect that the acrylic adhesive is the limiting factor there. The tape itself will probably last forever & be found in the belly of a fossilized duck 10,000 years from now. FWIW, I've continued to use the tape from the roll I got many years ago & it still seems to be the same & adheres very well. I've used it for other things where I needed to protect against wear or abrasion also. That's been my experience - other's may be different.

Keep the tape in the fridge, the adhesive will be preserved a lot longer, just let it get to room temp before you apply the stuff. A lot of aggressive adhesives will keep if they are refrigerated, Cynoacrylates in particular have to be kept in the fridge when not in use.........Now then, back to the kapeller, I wrapped with and against the grain and then a few wraps around the spinner....Dan

Some guys are soooo cheap they will use the pencil shavings from the pencil sharpener to start a fire in their fireplace ! 12 yards for about $25.00 including the shipping ! Buy the 12 yards , cut it down to 6 and take the rest to the next fly in and sell it ! Those with the $600 I Phone can call in their order . BOOM !

This forum sure is great. Thanks guys for the idea of using this tape; I'll get me some while my prop is new. I'm left wondering, do you fold half of it over the back or what?

3M installation instructions say to fold it in half . That's the route I am going .

I cut 2 identical length pieces. Use some disposable nitrile or latex gloves if you have them, to avoid skin oil & fingerprints on the tape. very slightly round off the corners on the cut ends. I center it on the apex of the leading edge of the blade and carefully apply it, avoiding bubbles - if you get any you can poke them with a needle & remove them. In other words, you're covering equal areas on both the front & back of the blade. Remove the backing/release paper as you go along. I guess you can fold it to help you identify the center & get it applied evenly on the blade. Obviously make sure the blade surface is very clean & free from nicks, etc. if possible. An alcohol wipe to eliminate any oil is good. That's about it. If 2 equal length pieces are applied carefully there should be no adverse effects on balance. Check it if you have the capability.

You can get this tape from ski shops in 3" widths. They use it for temporary ski repairs.

I guess I should have specified snow skiis. I mentioned this because the STC'd stuff by Prop Guard is 1 1/2" wide and gives better coverage due to the extra width.
