Post subject: | Exhaust slip joints |
After a prior discussion concerning the exhaust slip joints and the use of various anti seize compounds on those joints , I decided to pull my exhaust based upon Custom Aircraft Products recommendation to check the joints every other annual (PM) . This is what I found . Even though I had coated the joints with the Copper anti seize that Custom Products recommended , I found one joint that I could not separate even after soaking it with every "break loose" solution I could find . Even the AFT/Acetone solution and applying propane heat and light tapping the joint with a small persuader . The other joint did come loose with a little PB Blaster and some mild tapping with the hammer . After 2 days of trying everything I knew I took the one exhaust section back to Custom Products and they got the two pieces apart...AT NO COST ! Great Company to work with ! There are a local San Diego Company and the owners go out of their way to make you happy ! I will now try the Nickel anti-seize rated to 2400 degrees . Custom Products is now going to revaluate their anti seize choices . Pulling the exhaust was not time consuming , only about 20 minutes and it gave me a chance to look at the exhaust flanges on the cylinders...all were OK . I also found several sets of "No Blo" exhaust gaskets on E-Bay for about $2.50 each , so it has not been a big expense to check out the exhaust . BOOM ! RB |

Good for you, Rich! I'm also glad you're going to try the nickel based anti-seize... it's worth it IMHO. Mouse Milk sometimes works for loosening those things. |
