O-290 compression minimums, does anyone know what these numbers are? I know that Lycoming changed there standards but I can't find it, Steve Hawley what do you think on this? Dan |

Dan, Lycomig does not have a minimum compression for any engine. The statement regarding compressions is that anything under 60/80 warrants further investigation and they "suggest" removing the cyl if below 60, however thats not mandatory. It's pretty easy to find the culprit ... Intake valve, exhaust valve or an issue with the Cyl itself (broken rings, stuck rings etc). |

I didn't think there were minimums, just wanted to hear someone else say it. Who recommends a hone, what kind of hone, just in case we re- ring this one, come on someone out there has done it? Dan |

The best way is with a Sunnin machine with flat stones. This gets the proper cross hatch pattern. I would stay away from the balls-on-wires type. |
