There's a guy offering a 68 x 75 AD prop on the Van's Site. Nicely priced at 500 bucks and it's in NorCal.

Hope this helps. It's not the pitch you wanted but it's the pitch that Cubes runs on his 160 hp Patriotic Tigress.

Does anyone know if AD ever produced a prop without leading edge protection? The guy Terry referenced above does not think it has anything.

Mike asked me if I wanted the steel leading edge Cubes, it was an option. To check for the option all that needs to be done is put a magnet up to it, if it has the option the magnet will grab the edge. Hope this helps....Dan

Mine has an epoxy leading edge.

It was a so-called "stainless steel composite" leading edge. Supposedly S.S. powder mixed with epoxy. Shouldn't be magnetic unless it wasn't stainless steel at all, or was a 400 series stainless - unlikely. Mine has that, but I've never checked it with a magnet. You can probably see the little speckles in it if you look close, Cubes.

My leading edge is magnetic, Ira is working with a AD prop right now that has a magnetic leading edge........I suspected some form of steel powder mixed with an epoxy to form some sort of composite, but would not have sespected Stainless as it does not do as well with epoxy as does some kinds of carbon steel. But do you guys remember him selling the prop without any protection and we had to upgrade to have protection? I can't remember.

i just looked at one of their advertisments from 1993, and it says they had "composite steel" leading edges. Doesn't say anything about an option. I don't know why I had S.S. in my mind. It couldn't be because I'm getting old. ::) I didn't pay any attention to the brand until sometime in the '90s, so I'm not sure if they always had them.

They could have used 400 SS as it is magnetic whereas the 300 is not. Nickel content makes the difference.

All possibilities that's for sure gentlemen, I do know that leading edge is hard. And I also wish we had AD props in production again, the darn things work and work well. Has there been any contact with Mikes Family by anyone in the group?? Do you think someone will pick the ball up and run ever again?...Dan

Hey guys,

Please tell me what to expect for static rpm. That's the first indicator of an engine prop combination that's safe for takeoff I would think, right? This is an O-320 160 hp with new top overhaul, avgas, rebuilt carb and mags, new plugs and wires, gaps .018 and timing 25 BTDC after snapping the impulse coupling. Prop is AD 68 x 75. Having looked over a lot of T-18 combinations and talking an hour with Mike Demuth (a few years ago), it seemed like a good match. Field elev is 6200. I'm getting only 2000 rpm.

Whadya think?
Looking forward to Sedona

Les,
Did you lean it? I have a O290 and static is 2100 to 2200 at 500' with a wood 68x68 prop. Seems like you are in the ball park.
