Is there a news letter regarding what MA4-SPA part number carbie suits our 0-320-D2A mounted in the T18. I see there are about 5 to choose from. Given the price of them, I don't want to test all 5 to find out which one will give a smooth running engine.
I have an O-320-D2A also. Bought it new from Lycoming through Dick Wagner at WagAero in the early '80's (cost - approx. $5400!). The MA-4SPA that came on it is p/n 10-3678-32. Over the years I've done the metal float kit & one-piece venturi. Back in 1995 I did a modification that cured the occasional "hiccup" (that seemed to always occur over mountains or water) - I replaced the fuel nozzle with a new "pepper pod" style, p/n 47-828. My home field elevation is about 5700' msl, and it worked very well. But after a couple months of experience with it, including lower elevations, I determined it was running a little lean. I reamed the nozzle out to 0.104" from the original 0.093". For the last 20 years or so I'd say it's just about perfect for me. Engine smoothness and fuel burn are very good. I've flown it from sea level up to 19,000'.
