The "real" zinc chromate primer I found at the local Mom and Pop Auto parts place (not , auto zone , Pep Boys or O' Reily ) is made by Spray Products and it is labeled metal primer , green zinc chromate #942 (product # ?) For Commercial/Industrial use only . Not for consumer use ? I think I paid around $6.00 per can ? The same Company also produces the primer under the name of Orr-Lac . Sky Geek lists the primer for $6.99/can + shipping and possibly a HAZMAT fee ? I would try an auto body supply shop to see if they have it in spray cans to avoid the shipping costs .

Zinc Chromate containing primers are still available, just not at your local hardware or paint store. Like I said, available from automotive paint suppliers - "for professional use only". It was still available from Aircraft Spruce in aerosol cans as late as during Oshkosh this year. That's a good place/time to buy it to save shipping/hazardous material charges. VariPrime from Dupont is a zinc chromate containing self-etching primer also... as I mentioned, one of my favorites - again, should be available from your local automotive paint supplier. Good advice to wear a good mask whenever you're painting.
