Hello,

New guy on the website here. I have been looking for a T-18 that needs work to fit into my budget and could get flying in 6 months or so :-\ . I found a candidate that was a flying airplane just disassembled for a restoration. It is registered as a T-18B in 1995. Looking at the model identifiers of the different Thorp designs there is nothing that falls under this model. Would anyone have any insight on this? The seller claims it is a wide body version but is not the builder.

Thank you!

Maybe typo, maybe the builder just wanted to be different. Mine was registered as a T-18-2 Thorpe by the builder. I have no clue what the -2 might mean. I figure the “e” was a typo. It could have just as easily been called a “Doohickey 10K” and it still would have been the same airplane. It’s been through a couple of engine model changes but it started out as a standard T18 with an O-290.

I would verify the cabin width and press on with a decision on whether or not to buy.

Projects never go as planned. I have been 4 winters working on a Cessna 150 that “only needs the engine reassembled”.
