Beside the new paint I did some work on the interior.
Here's the old, I call it my "retro 60's avacodo green interior complete with shag carpet"

Image

Here's the new, the side panels are the same just a little paint, the carpet is indoor/outdoor from the aviation department at Home Depot, I also replaced the fuel valve with one from Andair, much better I can reach it in a normal sitting position.

Image

I also installed a glare shield, used flashing aluminum and glued a split flexable conduit to the front edge then painted it flat black.

Image

Without the glare shield it's hard to see through the windshield with the sun shining on the panel.

Nice, Bruce! You really spiffed her up. Love the recessed map pocket!

That stick boot is perfect. Where did you get it?

It has been this week in the Seattle area, have put 3.6 on the hobbs the last 3 days and made 2 "$100 hamburger" runs.

Bruce & Diane came by my hangar @ Crest Airpark yesterday, they had been air curing the finish on N18JF.
I'll say right here that he did a beautiful job and the pics of it do not do it justice.
We discussed his improved performance, a result of several tasks: A new camshaft, and rebuilt canopy frame doing their part, along with the slick finish.
We talked abut FEISTY for a bit, I was thinking my prop had gone out of balance. But a questionable mag check directed me to check my lower plugs.
They 'looked fine' but the Champion Spark Plug Resistance test was a bust. Two plugs read less than 2K Ohms (good), the two plugs on the left bank read open circuit! Now FEISTY is back to smooth running with Tempest UREM37Y on the bottom. I previously replaced the impulse coupled Bendix mag with an Emag firing Autolite 386 plugs in the top position.
This gave us the best rate of climb ever observed, over 1000 fpm @ 120 Mph, near gross weight. I wonder how long this had been festering?
But back to Bruce & Diane; Nice work, now Marilyn & I need to fly out with you guys for that $100 hamburger!

When I installed my HD Marine carpet (yours looks to be the same color) , I put in SS skid plates to protect the carpet from shoe wear and homeless people camping in there during RON'S . Almost 3 years later the carpet still looks new ! ??? I tried to insert a pic from my gallery , but as usual I can figure out how to do it ? :P

Thanks.

The glare shield was done with 10.0" wide by 0.01" thick aluminum. It's sold for roof flashing at the home improvement stores. It's thin enough that I didn't need to bend it to fit the radius of the panel it just laid in place. It is held in place by friction fit between the instrument panel and the side panels and the cut out for the compass.

Rich, I recieved the photo, next time you post look below the edit window for the "• Add image to post", click on it, it's pure magic how it works. ;D
