Post subject: | TAILWHEEL STEERING SPRINGS |
Cubes gave me a tip to change the tail wheel steering springs on 118 BC. The new compression springs were a little shorter and stiffer then what I had. The only issue was getting all of the parts together on the new springs, there was not enough room for the turnbuckle eye on one end and the eye bolt on the other end to assemble all of the parts on the new spring. The only way I was able to get it all assembled was to compress the spring in a vice, and use .041 safety wire to keep the spring in the compressed condition. Was then able to install the bails into the spring with the required parts, cut the safety wire and was ready to finish the install. I know many of you have probably come up with a better was to accomplish this, but this worked for me. Phil |

Good tip, Phil. I have been using stout tie wraps over the years. Thread 'em in and cinch 'em down. Cut when done. |
