I have been putting off ordering my elevator push pull tube because the shipping from Aircraft Spruce in Peachtree City, GA is about $170. I thought about flying to KFFC to pick it up in person, but I have decided I wont be able to wrangle a 10 foot tube into my airplane and fly back home with it. Anyone have any ideas on how to beat that high shipping cost? ACS said it didnt matter if I shipped to a residence or a business, the shipping price was the same on this one.

Cheap shipping = Military intelligence . ??? Try Cubes and see if he has a T-18 push pull tube and his shipping rate . Might be a better deal and help support our vendor . ;) Other wise check with a freight company for a rate and see if Spruce will load it on a truck ? Pretty sure 10 feet is out of limits for UPS and FedEx so Spruce may already be dealing with a freight company ?

yep, you hit the nail on the head. Too long for Fedex, so it will be a freight company.

A friend who has worked in the shipping industry said that if time was not an issue you might be able to ship as space available for a reduced rate, that means it might sit in a warehouse for a period of time. Also check moving companies that might have a space.

If they know it's an airplane part, the price goes up. If not, they run it over with a forklift. I know from experience.

Try U-Ship.com. People with trailers crisscross the country looking for items to carry. They might take a while, as they may find something that is generally along their route, and take a side trip to pick it up, or a side trip to drop something off. You post your item on the site along with the "from" and "to" locations, and they bid on the job. When you see a price you like, you accept the bid. Bob H.

I finally got a bid on push pull tubes. The vendor says about six weeks for delivery.

In 2009, I ordered one from Classic Sport Aircraft, and Mike sent me one that was cut in half and included a sleeve and rivets for putting it together. Shipping costs were minimal.
