I really think you need a "clean" mating surface . The Lycoming overhaul manual may shed some lite on this ? RB |

You don't paint the inside of the intake tube, so painting the face of the flange is not necessary. The end where the rubber tubes slip over the un flanged part of the tube I don't paint either, same with the oil pan tubes. If you don't hanger and tie down on a wind swept ocean beach you may see some corrosion. Phil 118BC |

Thanks, everyone, for your votes and comments. If you saw the results, 4 out of 7 votes were to get her flying. So, I've decided not to paint these tube flanges. I sanded them with a fine sanding block and they are very smooth and should seal well. That's good enough for me. Thanks again! |
