Thinking about a Thorp,
Have a 1948 Piper PA15 Vagabond, C85-12, two twelve gallon wing tanks, Steve's Skylight and gascolator, 25x11x4 Tundra tires and 8:00x4 with wheelpants.
Fresh Top overhaul, fresh rebuild, 75% of wings are new. All new Field approvals for fuel tanks, fuel system, engine.
725 empty on 8:00x4's, paperwork for 1150 gross. Light Sport qualified, Drivers License only.

Nice looking plane Dave, it looks like you have taken good care of it. There are some guys at Kvis that have given up there Hot Rods for the light sport category for various reasons and I believe medical was one of the major reasons. They are still flying today due to the trade off that I assume you are proposing(tell me if I'm wrong here and if IM wrong I apologize) as they have traded off for a good looking bird such as the one you have here before they lost their Medical and are still attending pancake fly ins today. There will be someone come along and swing a deal with you make no mistake, once again,Fine looking Airplane you got there........Dan

Thanks Dan,
I have many older friends that went the
Light Sport route. They all have sold in the last couple
years because of health issues and I find myself
thinking of something faster.
It flies great and it was a fun project.
The airport I worked at when I was younger
Had two T18's based there, always liked them.

Where are you based Dave? If I were you I would just keep that Vagabond clean and shiney, there will be a deal come along and you will be ready for it. There are pilots everyday as you just stated converting to LSA, and this is better than them just hangin up there headsets and staying in their recliners thats for sure. Have you posted on Barnstormers your intentions in making a trade? This might speed up the process a bit if you havent. Just hang in there and the right deal will come along, Ive put 3 guys in Thorps in about the past 3 years and I get a bang out of it, good luck and keep us posted dont be a stranger to the Forum for you are welcome here.......Dan

Dan,
I continue to fly the Vagabond, that's why a trade appeals
to me. If the stars align, that would be great, if not, that's fine also.
I've had great luck selling on Barnstormers, I just don't
want to open it up to the whole world.
Vagabond or T18 is all that interests me right now, so I thought
this would be the best place.
Thanks,
Dave

Going to look at a 125 HP Thorp next week.
1. Is this enough HP? 1000 ft msl airports
2. What should it weigh empty for decent performance.
3. Any easy measurements for extended gear?
Thanks,
Dave
