Dick,
I dont know if this will work for you or not, but the below ad is on vans air force:

I have a used vettermans exhaust for a RV 4 with a 0360. It is the two pipe crossover type exhaust. It comes with one heat muff. Call me or text me for info or pic. Steve 832-236-4130 $400

Thx, Ryan... I talked to Steve last week. That exhaust won't fit a T18; it crosses both behind and in front of the sump. Larry Vetterman confirmed that none of his systems fit the T18.

Larry built mine and swore he would not build another. Too bad. It's a good exhaust. Anyone know if John Forstling is still in business? He built great Thorp systems.

When I mean perfect...it fits like a glove ! :) They even cut down my heat muff to the size I wanted ( the standard 9 inch long heater was reduced to about 6 1/2"), welded in the bung for my egt probe and when I had the unit installed they cut the exhaust pipe to the length I wanted ! No extra charge ! They did everthing I wanted and the word NO was not in their customer service. My engine is an 0-360, but they have templates for just about every engine. I have been to their shop in and it is a state of the art facility. ;)

I have a used Custom Aircraft products exhaust system that is for sale. It came off of Les Conwell's aircraft O-320, it would not fit in my cowl, the rear crossover was 3/4" too low. The only problem with it is the slip joints in the cross over tubes are not free, I haven't tried too hard to unstick them.

John Forsling made a new exhaust for me last summer, at that time he mentioned he was considering retiring, he's 70 now.

When I picked up my Custom Aircraft Exhaust from their shop in San Diego, the owner said to apply some HIGH temp Permatex copper anti sieze to the joints upon assemble (Napa Auto has the stuff). Can not say if it "works" as the exhaust has not been off the A/C since installed new.

Thanks, all... I was successful in finding a set. Rich was right... "like a glove" and mine don't even have slip joints!

I wasn't in a position to check fit with respect to the cowl, but I will go on Richards glowing endorsement. (You are on the hook if they don't fit, Rich.) ;-)

The slip joints are there to accomodate the growth of the cylinders for a cross-over system as they heat up .

Dick: Are you saying this is a Custom Aircraft exhaust system W/O the slip joints ? As far as I know they don't make one unless it has the slip joint ?

Custom Aircraft built one for me and I took the clearance measurements for him. It fit perfect and the welds are picture perfect. Also if you click on the photo link you will see pictures of it installed on my plane. Price went up as I paid about 1300 a couple of years ago. I fly in cold weather and the heat exchangers very effective. My old exhaust was too close to the cowling and I wanted this one routed tight to the engine.
