Cubes, You should be so lucky, my local home drome has gas at $6.61. Cheapest, excuse me the least expensive gas is $5.77 35 miles away. Makes the $4.49 booze free auto gas look good even thou I have to haul it to the airport. |

I hauled my Fuel to the airport last Sunday, 10.3Gal, it was 39 bucks........ I need to haul about 5Gal more out there and top it off...........I use mid Grade........Dan |

Dan: Why not put a large fuel tank (say 50-75 gal) in the back of your truck with a 12 volt transfer pump and a standard fuel nozzle and fill it up . That way you could fill the larger tank when the price was "low" and save yourself hauling 10 gallons at a time to the plane ?  Using the transfer pump would seem to a lot easier than trying to lift a 10 gallon jug to fill the AC tank !  RB

You are absolutely right Rich, the transfer tank is the way to get it done. This is what was being done when I was training, we had an old Ford pickup with a tank in it and the nozzle and 12v pump and such and it worked out great!! Until it was pointed out to us that we were still in California, and the worms came out of the woodwork. We had to comply with this regulation and that regulation and the truck was the wrong color and our box of snot rags on the dash was the wrong brand and the Capone institute needed there payola, city Hall cried foul the insurance company was really in control of our lives and we had no right to try to make a decision as to what brand of toilet paper we used the right front tire on the truck was shy a little air and the air pollution control district would tell us when the air was safe to put in the tire there were no methane obsorbsion canisters in the seats of the truck. There were about 20 people that started training in this plane, out of the 20, 2 finished, myself and Dean. The rest of the Folks were just overcome with cost and had to walk away. I have 2-5gal gas canisters, I hide em in the back of the Car and use em to fuel the plane, of coarse I use 100 LL away from home. Its a good thing we have experimentals, this saves a bunch in cost when it comes to flying!!! lets see now, the Thorp has been experimenting for 50 years, and the Tailwind for 60 years, I think I would be safe in saying Steve Hawley has flown his for about 30 yrs, and the experiment continues.......Dan |

I also use two 5 gal plastic gas cans. I can get 11 gal in them. Depending on how full the tank is I either dump them in before or after I fly. I have a third that I hate to use but I do if I need it to top of the tank for a trip. It is one of the new style. No vent. >:( It takes a full 6 minutes to dump the 5 gal in the tank.  At least it has the notch on the filler to rest it on the tank opening.

Us Florida guys have it rough. We have a couple of stations that sell 100LL for the blow boats for about a dollar more than mogas and at present we pay average $3.48. Our FBO at LAL sells SS at $4.93. That's whats nice about having 62 gallon tanks, you can thumb your nose at $7.10 |

Bill, that's good pricing!! I think I pay bout 3bucks and 70 for the mid grade, it does beat the 6.90 I believe for the LL....................Dan |

Dan - I hope it is 5.90 per gallon at KVIS self serve - that's what airnav is reporting. I know that's a tad spendy for Cubes......but hey, he uses toilet paper twice. |
