Hi Guys, I'm in the middle of installing the new windshield in 66WT. The protective plastic has been on the plexi for a while and it reluctant to come off. I got a report that Prep-Sol may help get the plastic off without damaging the Windsheild. Anyone have any experience, I'm ready to hear how other's might have handled this before I use a product that makes a mess of the nice new windshield.

Thanks, T

Never had that problem, but might consider a hair dryer for starters.

I am sure you are going to have some surplus windshield material with the protective cover on it . I would try "testing" on that part before you go full bore one the main windshield . I would stay away from the "hair dryer" as you could overheat the glass and fuse the protective covering to the glass , not to mention bugger up the glass its self . :o I would call Airplane Plastics to see if they have a solution to get the film off . If they don't have a solution I would try water based "Goof Off " to try and soften the film . Denatured Alcohol might be another solution ? Test it on a scrap piece . ;) Your results may vary ? :P

Thanks to Bernie for the link to the Eplastics site. As you can see from the photo, the windshield is all clear. All that's left to do (with the windshield) is finish the trim strips and get them installed.

I just made myself a windshield this year or had one made after I made the mold. Not a big deal on the mold, got some press board for the sides and some smooth maconite for the working surface,24"x65" and of course the curve of the windshield. Had a plastics place cut/bend it here in Tacoma for $150.00, that included the plastic. Trimed it up with a die grinder,sanded-polished edges and made larger holes so it would float with a stepdrill. Looks good lasts a long time. Paul
