The picture attached is what I think is called the wheel retaining ring. If I'm wrong about that, its the part that I'm pointing to in the picture. Anyway, I noticed today that one of mine is missing. Does anyone have an extra one sitting around? I would be glad to pay for it and the shipping. Bob, you dont have one sitting around in your stack of stuff you're hauling to KY Dam do you?

I am at the point in my rebuild, of wheels and brakes. I have a question concerning the proper felt grease seals to use on a 500x5 wheel. The part that throws me is that the 485 wheel retainer and the 484 back ring have different diameters. The standard 154-00600 seal fits the rear ring, but not the front. In the previous post in this thread by Ryan Allen, you can see in his picture, the same problem. A sizable gap between the retainer ring and the felt seal. I have found that a 154-00300 seal fits the retainer but not the wheel. Any help appreciated.

Looking at the picture, missing is the 5710 spacers, two required. These felt "rides" on the spacer.

Well that could be so in his picture, but my metal seal rings are there and the felt is sandwiched between them, but not "riding" on the retaining ring. The front ring has a diameter of 1.658, and the rear has a diameter of 1.754 per the plans. I don't see how the same felt ring could work for both, or then again maybe mine have just stretched.

Thanks, Keith

These spacers are washers on steroids. They are 1/4"inch thick and have the outside felt seal diameterand inside diameter of the axle.. Aircraft Spruce has a picture of them. Two are required.

OK Bill, I know what you are referring to. I think I have the problem figured out. I went back and looked at my set of plans, and found two drawings for the wheel back ring. 484, and A-484. 484 has a diameter of 1.658,(which someone has put a red x through)and the A-484 has a diameter of 1.754 (this is what I have). Now the outer wheel retainer -485 has a diameter of 1.658 (this what I have). I'm betting there is an A-485 with a diameter of 1.754 (which if I had, I wouldn't be asking all these stupid questions). Does anyone know if I am right?

Thanks,Keith
