Brian...I don't think anyone is trying to stir up a pile of piss ants regarding these plates and no one is doubting your metal working skills. When you have a group of old farts passing gas, including me, things/topics have a way of moving from simple to complex. [:o)] From more than adequate to over kill. If you can afford it, buy it. If you can make it according to specs, do it. My construction log has columns for make or buy and about 50%+ was buy. Rather than make form blocks, I bought the ribs...just more cost effective for me, plus it saved me a hell of a lot of time ! [;)] S-18 wing fittings were in the same boat, I bought them from CSA. On the other hand my throttle quadrant was made by me and took several months and many proto types to satisfy my attention to detail.

Brian - not to worry. It's a good conversation. It's really nice to know so many guys in this group who do/can build just about anything they need to themselves. I consider myself in that category. The guys who can do things like pound out their own metal cowls, like Bob Highley and Bill Williams, and guys who also build race cars, impress me. That's one of the many things that set us apart from most of the common "kit" builders. You're doin' good!
