Post subject:  Cleveland 500 X 5 brake pad thickness?

I took the wheels and brakes of the T-18 today and discovered that I am at or near the wear limits (looks like it anyway)

This will be the first time replacing the linings so I want to make sure I am looking for the right parts; I BELIEVE that I have Cleveland 500 X 5 brakes.

Could someone that knows please have a look and confirm and point me to the most reasonable place to buy new linings?

Thanks in advance.

Could someone PLEASE tell me what I am doing wrong? I uploaded the photos to my album and then "inserted" them here....I can't see them! :(

Tim,
There are spaces in the path/file names, you may need to put quotes around the complete path/file name. Lee should be able to confirm this.

Your linings are worn down to the rivets, you need to replace the pads

Yup, saw those rivets and knew it was time!

Can you confirm those are Cleveland? or rapco(?)

All fine now. Whenever you guys load files try to keep the names free of things like "(Large)" etc ...

Bruce was correct, the page does not render that correctly. I'll put it on my increasingly large list of TODO's!

Tim,
Yes those are 500X5 and ACS guarantees lowest price unless you can get them locally and save the shipping. the good news is they're light so shipping is pretty cheap. They run about $7 a set (you'll need 2 sets). Also you'll need to borrow a brake pad tool, or buy one of those too.

Pads/Rivets
06-16956 RAPCO BRAKE LINING # RA66-106 $6.95

Tool
10-02065 RAPCO BRAKE RIVET TOOL RA825 $26.50

Wish I took another few hours to leap....

I bought the RAPCO RA66-106-4K brake lining kit, pads and rivets from a local shop (there aren't many to choose from) and they gave me a deal -they said- and only gored me to the tune of $45.00.

I know I will be embarrassed for asking but who is ACS? I googled it and it looks like a supply place for big jets (WWW.ACS-PARTS.COM)?

I won't open the bag yet to see what it will cost to get em to Canada, if you can point me the right way!

THANKS :)

NEVER MIND...

I figured it out AirCraft Spruce (ACS)...doooooooooooh!

I just ordered from ACS :)

For the cost of my soon to be returned pads I am getting the same pads and a 900 piece screw assortment and delivery....WOW!

Sucks to be the local guy when the internet is available!

Hey Tim,

How did you get your plane to stand up on two legs like it is shown in the pictures?

The tie down ring is aft of the pitot tube so I jacked there; we built a jack (that can't collapse or slip (quoted from the book of famous last words)) I'll post a picture of it tomorrow. It worked great and allowed me to get the brakes out of the way so I could remove the long piano wire that closes the gear leg fairings. They were loose; we bonded (JB WELD :) ) some washers to the back of the fairing to close the holes up and take up some room; they are tight and don't move at all anymore.

Forgive the crappy cell phone pictures but here is what I came up with for a jack stand.

Get some extra rivets. I always seem to split one or two trying to get them tight but not too tight. If one did more than one set of brakes every few years the feel might last between brake jobs....
