Just ordered a set of replacement Matco brake linings from Spruce, to have on hand when the current set wears down. I got them anticipating a possible change after the 40 hours of Phase I testing. Upon examing the new replacement linings (after the last few posts showing a set of linings worn down to the rivets), I discovered that they have a wear marker built into them, making it possible to inspect the linings w/o having to remove the caliper to check the wear. [;)] It looks like if just a bit of the wear marker is left the lining should be just above the rivet. This wear marker is not on the original linings that came with the Cleveland brakes. May not be on other replacment linings ? The linings also came with instructions on how to "break in" the new linings, something I had not really thought about.

Hope you mean Rapco. Matco is an entirely different system. You should get a couple hundred hours out of a brake pad change.

You are correct. Should have said RAPCO not MATCO. Wasn't sure on the wear rate of the pads.

Anybody know the proper torque for reassembling the brakes with new linings?

For the two bolts that hold the lining plates to the caliper body (I know they get safety wired too).

Just make em snug ... not worth getting tied up in torque values. In my neck of the woods safety wire is no longer considered mandatory, but since you have the holes better safe than sorry. I put safety wire through them anyhow.

I usually tighten all fasteners until they strip, and then back off one turn.

looks like 75 to 80 inch lbs :)

I'm glad I checked on the torque, that 80 in/lbs came up really fast!!!!

I'm 110% sure I would have twisted the bolt off if I had just tightened till it felt right (usally a ft/lb over the breaking strength :)

Might be wise to write those numbers down and use a torque wrench if you are as ham-fisted as I am.

Speaking of writing down the torque numbers, I put my AD prop bolt torque # (along with the bolt/hole locations) on the front of the crush plate with a large tip Sharpie...I think the DAR was impressed. Might work for other locations ? Would save having to track down and find those pesky numbers !

Can never find a manual for this or the other thing, but I have my blue copy of aircraft hardware standards beside my torque wrench in the tool box.

Came across a couple of Cleveland manuals while not specific do provide some basic guidance.

So now that the Peg has a hockey team whacha calling the Jets,...
