T-18ers, You have just been conscripted into a SECRET Mission! Please help to honor one of our own. Kenny Knowles was the person that started the first T-18 business that has evolved into Classic Sport Aircraft that Cubes now owns. He lives near my folks (Howard and Elaine Ginn) in Northern Arizona and they see each other fairly regularly. We'll be sure to get Kenny to Sedona for Rich's Fly-In in Spring 2015. Please see the email thread below. Especially the part about sending an email or a letter for Kenny's "mail call". Whether you knew him or not, please do this to honor this WWII veteran as well as guy who is passionate about the Thorp T-18. Let's go one better -- whether you write a little or a lot, include a picture of your T-18 in the card, letter or email. Ken is very sharp, he'll probably recognize a lot of the N - numbers of the older birds. These have to be in to Lisa by May 12th so don't procrastinate. I am sending mine tonight. Thanks for your support! Fly Safe, Fly Fast, Fly Thorps!! Tony Ginn tony.ginn@nasa.gov From: Howard Ginn <t18heg@commspeed.net> Date: May 2, 2014 at 7:55:13 PM PDT ATTENTION to Thorpies who knew Kenneth Knowles (and even those who did not). He will be 95 years old in October and is in amazing condition - walks 3 miles a day, golfs 3 days a week and eats healthy and lives in his own home. He had the very first business of selling T-18 parts (including T–18 belt buckles and patches) in the 60's and 70's. He will be so surprised and elated to hear from you Thorpies all over the country. Aloha, Howard & Elaine From: Georgia Berry (Kenny's Daughter) Date: Thursday, May 1, 2014 10:34 AM To: Howard Ginn <t18heg@commspeed.net> Subject: Fw: My dad, Kenneth Knowles My dad is a veteran of World War ll, and is traveling to Washington, DC, along with other veterans from Arizona to see the Nation World War ll Memorial. The mission of Honor Flight Arizona is to honor these brave men and women for their sacrifices in the cause of American Freedom. The Honor Flight of Arizona has a "SECRET," which is where you can help. The secret part is what happens on the flight home. As it was in wartime, their day is not over. Waiting for them on the flight home, they have "MAIL CALL" the same kind of mail call that kept their spirits alive during the war. HERE IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP. FIRST OF ALL- KEEP THIS A SECRET! Write him a thank you letter, card or e-mail for serving our country. Please have the letter, card or e-mail sent to the address below by May 12th. Hey guys ... Let's make this happen! KK is a great guy, without him the Thorp would surely not exist as it does today. I'm quite nostalgic for the days when Ken owned the parts business, no one since has put 10% of the effort that he and Geri did. Please help us recognize him! |

Thanks guys! Everyone else please take a few minutes out of your day. I hit on this at Oshkosh last year but Ken was a pioneer for the Thorp movement, never since has someone put more effort into the continuation of the breed. He truly deserves to be honored for his sevice to our country and selfishly to our airplanes! |

A great program for a great generation. Sent a couple of pix and flew some KK parts today. Visited Ken's shop in the 70's and carried some parts back to Hill AFB in an F-4 Phantom II travel pod. Some of my Thorp has been over 450 KTS! |

Bob: I assume the F-4 X-Cty to pick up the parts was done in the name of "training ! " Now a days it would be hard to walk out to the AC in the name of "training ! " The good old days...a Govt. credit card and a full bag of gas ! BOOM ! RB |

This is awesome. I just got done with a little note and some photos. Without Ken's business, N45881 would not have flown. I also found a photo I took in 1983 when my brother and I stopped to visit with ken and Geri . Was always one of the first stops to stop when we arrived at Oshkosh. |

Rich, Mission was to Point Mugu to augment our friends at Navy Test Squadron (VX-4?). Long drive to Torrance, but truly worth it. Much fun at Mugu as we were sharing the air with unmanned aircraft. Not talking about women pilots, either. |
