Is there a preferred insurance carrier that folks are using ? I have been using Avemco for many years for my other plane but got a quote on the Thorp for $1.250.00 1M liability 15K hull in flight, got a quote from Falcon for $770.00 for the same coverage. I have approximately 2800 PIC and 800+ tail wheel. Any advice? Additionally, I am still looking for a Ken Brock backing plate and spinner for a constant speed Hartzell, anybody know of one that is airworthy and available?

There are only a few "under writers" of experimental insurance. So, the final cost is what the broker marks it up. I used Falcon for 20 years and was quite pleased with them until about two years ago they quoted me a price that was what I thought high. I checked with some of my RV friends and they were using Gallagher. I insured with them as there quote was about what Falcon previously charged. Falcon called and ask what I had not insured with them and when told there price was high and that I had insured with Gallagher , their comment was why did you not call them for another quote, I don't play that game, give me the best going in. Again, it's up to the broker for the final cost as they all use the same under writers.

Have to agree with Bill . As a related story when I got married in 1974 we had State Farm auto insurance in the Los Angeles area , joined the Navy and went to Pensacola , Meridian MS , then back to California . Each time we changed State Farm agents when we moved we were told our premiums would go up because we were in a HIGH risk accident area ? Los Angeles I could understand , but Meridian , MS ? Changed to USAA 39 years ago . Started out with one aviation carrier (don't remember the name) when I completed the S-18 , but a few months later went with AVEMCO because they had a lower rate for more coverage . ???

This is all very interesting. I use USAA as my broker. They have come up with Falcon for the last several years.

I'm using Scott "Sky" Smith for my broker and every year the lowest quote has been from AIG/Chartis for 1M liability and 30K hull in flight. Not every carrier has given a quote as I'm "low time" 470 PIC with 360 tail wheel. So far I'm happy with the service I've gotten from SkySmith Agency.
