Post subject:  Aircraft leveling for Weight and Balance

Hello Fella's,
My mechanic and I are going to do a new weight and balance on N2WB, I have to get her level to do this. Without taking out my rolled plans (PITA!) how do I level the aircraft? I can take a reference off the wing incidence, but is this the correct way? Also I noticed my right gear might be about 1.25" behind the left probably got tweaked in her past life. Alignment is spot on both axles with 0 degree tow in. Should this be a concern?

WL 42 is the level line. That is the reinforcing strip below the cockpit rail. Level across the bulkhead behind the seat backs is the lateral reference. 0 toe in/out is perfect.

I am assuming you are referring to this correct? Just use a carpenter's level then?

Yes. Tail will be quite high when level.

Just so you are on the same page, WL42 is the 5/8” by 1/8” strip of aluminum that is riveted to the outside skin of your bird that runs from the firewall back to the cockpit area as Bob described a couple of inches below the canopy rail.
I use a digital level like you can buy at any local hardware store.
As Bob also said, the tail will be quite high. Because it is so high, you are much closer to it tipping on its nose. Please be careful and always have control of the tail.

Thanks Cubes! Yes will do. With the new tailwheel setup I bought from you the arm measures 224 is that sound correct? 169" past the wing leading edge. My main gear axles are spot on at 53", I though the right was tweaked but it was an optical illusion until I got her level.

Yes. The Trusty spring moves the tail wheel back 9”.

Did you complete your W&B? And did you try entering data in foreflight?

I raised the tail and used WINN BALANCE CD and just plugged in the numbers to get my W & B . (not sure if the CD it is still available ?) I do not use fore flight . I use the iFLY GPS .
