I have committed to buy a T18! The sale should be fully completed later this week to buy a Thorp T18. registration number - N2911
It was recently listed on Facebook Marketplace. Being only 2 hr drive from our home, my wife and I jumped in the car and looked at it and decided to buy it this past Sunday morning. Delivery is tentatively for later this week or this weekend depending on the weather.
N2911 has been continuously owned by the original builder since 1968. Which makes me officially the second owner of the plane in 58 year history. It was originally flown in 1968 as one of the few open cockpit T18 but soon thereafter converted to full canopy.
The aircraft history shows that it was involved in an accident in 1978 with extensive rebuild after that. (by extensive meaning that about all that was re-used from the airplane was the data plate). The builder chose to build two of everything during the rebuild so when complete, he had two complete T18's. The second T18 was later sold.
N2911 currently sports a160 HP O320b3b with a 3-blade Sensenich ground adjustable propeller and has dual Dynon Skyview 10 glass panel including autopilot.
I am so excited. I am excited about all the learning I have to do. Both to transition to flying the Thorp as all my tailwheel time has been in low and slow Cubs and Champs and Chief's etc. Secondly I have never flown with glass panel so I have a lot of button pushing and head scratching time to become efficient at the amazing modern avionics it has.
The plane has been taken really good care of over the years with many updates etc. But as always, there are a few personal things I want to do to make the plane "my own". But most of those to-do items are in the future. I mainly want to initially focus on flying and having fun with the new bird!
My hope is that I will be able to fly it to KY this fall.
