I just got my tax bill from the county for my hanger. Man am I miffed! 226 bucks for the privilege of paying 110 buck a month for the land lease. 226 bucks for real estate taxes on land that I cannot borrow against. They even call it "unsecured property tax bill". I call it BS! Plus we pay a luxury tax for the airplane. This is at an airport that the EAA and FAA got together and decided to prohibit homebuilt flying for the first 5 hours. No input from the users mind you.
This crap has got to stop!

As I studied which airplane to build almost 30 years ago , I picked the S-18 as I knew by the time I got it done hangar rent in San Diego would be expensive ! ??? I also found a house that had a flat pad next to the main house to build a hangar/workshop . ;) As you can imagine to find a hangar to rent in San Diego now will cost $400-500 a month for a single unit . You can find some that are cheaper , but you need to drive a considerable distance to get there . :o

The AC has been at the home hangar now for 3 years and I am very happy with the folding wing concept . Even at the lower end of the hangar rent I have saved a butt load of $$$ . As far as the "Luxury Tax" I have my County Sign Tax sign off sheet with me on my clip board . 12 sign offs and I pay NO County tax on the AC . It is a royal pain , but it saves me an addition $400.00 a year . 8) The other benefit of keeping the AC at home is that I don't have to have 2 sets of tools to work on the AC . Sure as Obama Care if I had a hangar at the airport , I would need some tool I left at home ! ::) BOO YA !

we don't have to pay taxes on the hangar lot unless we own the hangar. Then, the lot taxes are anywhere from $700-$1200, depending on the size of your lot. But, you do not own the lot, you own your hangar, the city owns the lot. Us lowly renters don't have to pay taxes, just hangar rent, which is anywhere from $75-$225.

We have to pay those extorsion fees, or , taxes as they are refered to here in California also Cubes. I just filled out the Tax statement on the plane and am waiting to see how much they are going to extort from me this time. Taxes on the hanger really chap my hide, and because I worked hard for years to build the plane and got it finished now that qualifies me to get extorted from every year. If you really want to know what you really own just stop paying all the extorsion money, you will find that the sum of property actually owned by you is ZIP. I don't vent often, Im ready to pick a fight, I am American!!! I am no different than the Americans of 1776, and I wear this with the utmost of dignity and pride..........Dan

I'm thinking about selling the hanger and renting a spot. Not really, but this is ridiculous. Wondering if there is a state out there that likes people to have hobbies.
No, Bob, I can't live in Fl again. The humidity kills me.

If I use/charge the hangar/aircraft to a business expense, the county ass essor wants almost a thousand a year for taxes. They demand I prove tax responsibility by supplying my personal and business tax returns. I did the first year, and have refused since.
