Thorp Air Command - T18.net

Hello all,

I don't post on here much, if it all, but I do regularly read all the posts. I was introduced to the T-18 by Roy Farris, who was my flight instructor at the time. I am an engineer, and naturally the building of an aircraft fascinated me. I received plans for Christmas in 2011, and since then I have made very slow progress (I have 4 kids < 6 years old, so not much free time). I started my project by learning how to form so ribs. When I started that job I found a local guy with a CNC router to cut all my form blocks. They turned out very nice. I recently decided to start working on the fuselage, so I decided again to have some form blocks cut on the CNC router. I was able to watch them being cut yesterday and thought I would share the video. I'm hoping to get some parts made with them in the next couple of weeks.

Be sure to scour the newsletters, this forum, and the old forum for "best practices." There were a lot of little improvements people made on the way. One that comes to mind is frame 571. When you form the inside flange, form it so it faces aft. When you install your baggage compartment panels years from now, you'll be glad you did.

I am in the process of turning that frame flange around on my project. Much easier to do it incorrectly in the first place!

You are MONTHS ahead using that CNC machine rather than making the form blocks by hand !
