Got it. Give me a few days to devise a suitable shipping container. By them I will also have the shipping costs.

Scott: The UPS freight was a wee bit more than I thought it would be...I was guesstimating about $20/25, looks to be more like $35.00. I don't think the freight is that out of line considering it is clear across the country and the box is approx. 4.5ft x 12" x 12" x approx. 15 pounds. The freight is more about size than weight. I plan to have the shipping box completed this weekend with the tips ready to ship on Monday, if the freight costs are agreeable ? Please advise. Sleepless in Jamul. [|)]

Dick: The cool breeze coming off Lake Huron got you down,.... What are you going to do when winter finally arrives? (-12.1C) just about time to put a spring jacket on,... ha ha. Nice to have a hanger so you don't have to work on your bird outside in blowing snow, eh.

Your flashlight will go out just as you find your mechanical fingers / or a smaller telescoping magnet. Sounds like you got someone out to help you pull off your outer wing section.

4 months till spring. Cheers.

Somebody know this tips. Look like Madras tips, maybe one of a kind. Better at slow speed.
This Thorp as a different look with is round canopy and the droop tips.

Rich,

I'm interested in the metal wingtips if they are still available. Can you post a picture. Contact me off list if you want.

Now 'why' would you need a set of metal tips..They won't fit your RV-8...

Well....
I'm not Scott Saver, but I am a Scott who could use some wing tips!
Old FEISTY's polyester tips sound like Potato Chips when you squeeze them a tad too hard.
So any tips on types of tips, better, worse, most common, fiberglass, metal, etc would be most welcome. You experienced fellows could share what you know about Thorp wing tips.
I think the tips I have are the least desireable, rounded end type with a little cut out for the position light.
I may eventually build a set if I can't find what I seek.

Bringing back an OLD thread but the title made sense to keep it "alive".

I was wondering if anyone thought the weight savings and cost would be worth it to make the "glass" parts out of carbon fiber rather than fiber glass?

I've never even looked at the cost difference but performance is based upon weight. And with the cowling and tips etc it might save some weight.

What say you guys?

Happy 2016, Capt Rich and all others.

I need to start gathering parts for my 7yr old son's T-18 project. I'll take those fiberglass wing tips off your hands (or the aluminum if Scott doesn't want them). I'll be heading to San Diego this Thur PM and returning Sunday PM. I'll just drop by for them if you've made bail and will be around. Let's talk.

Cheers, Tony

PS: Santa was good to us this year. Rosen Sun Visors and 26" Tundra Tires for the C180! Here's a pic of what an Alaskan T-18 would look like.

Sorry BobMo,
Oops, I didn't see there was a page 2 for this thread. I'll assume they're headed your way.
