Thorp Air Command - T18.net

Those of us who operate around eggbeaters....especially large military ones pretty much know the hazards, or at least should. The following is a video that demonstrates these hazards. Granted, as the pilot survived with bumps and bruises only it seems, and the Cirrus was wrecked, the helicopter may be deemed to have done a public service.........



According to the pilot of the cirrus (that I read second hand), he had full right deflections in for both aileron and rudder to no avail.

Stay away from eggbeaters.

A larger aircraft can do this more than ten miles behind it. Wake can be so strong, it can rip a plane apart mid air. Best to avoid.

There was a T-18 destroyed & pilot killed - I believe in California, when a chopper descended over him during his landing flare. IMHO, helicopters should stay off & away from runways and other aircraft under most all circumstances.

If you've never had a chance to get up and close to a V-22 , check out the size of those rotors ! Sad News for the Navy as they plan to replace the C-2 Grayhound with the V-22 as their new COD replacement . The down wash from these props has to be enormous , not to mention the side movement of the air from this beast . In order to taxi on the ground they must "tilt" the rotors to move . Another danger area behind this traveling accident !

Thanks for posting Fras. A good lesson, seeing is believing! While I was shooting the @#$% at FOX field this morning four of those twin screw Marine egg beaters came in. I’m glad my T was behind a hanger.
Then two sonic booms from over Edwards. Gotta love The high desert!

He was complaining about ground clearance. We had two on the flightline over the weekend.

Marines - always worried about ground clearance.......prolly couldn't dip sonar lying on their stomach.
